Alan Ames has spent his whole life pursuing his passion for nature and adventure, and was once described by a national newspaper as “a cross between David Attenborough and Indiana Jones”

In 1996 he founded Eagle Heights Bird of Prey Centre in Kent, this has since been changed to a Foundation and will soon achieve charitable status. The Foundation is now run by his children while Alan concentrates on his educational work and projects in Africa.

He has spent over 30 years on and off living in Central West Africa working on various wildlife projects. The most notable was the setting up of a 500 acre reserve in The Gambia. Despite the best efforts of Alan, the project was undermined. Nevertheless, the Green Sea Turtle breeding project is running successfully and an endangered vulture breeding project is under way.

Alan has also lived with the Baka people in the Cameroon rain forest giving him a real understanding of natural sustainability and of how ecosystems work.

Now back in the UK bringing amazing encounters and educational opportunities to the people in the form of school visits, documentary filming and even bringing the birds to the big screen in multiple feature films!
